A Look Back at the 103rd Running of the Far Hills Race Meeting

With our Gratitude and Thanks!

Once the foliage starts to change in New Jersey, the anticipation begins to build for the most prestigious event in all of American steeplechasing – the Far Hills Race Meeting. On October 19th, more than 30,000 people gathered in Far Hills for our 103rd running and were treated to an exciting afternoon of racing under some of the most beautiful weather conditions in recent memory.

To say it was an exciting afternoon on the track is an understatement! Over six races, some of the best jump horses in the world came to historic Moorland farm for a chance to compete for the richest purses on the National Steeplechase Association schedule. Five-year-old gelding, Minella Juke, took the McDynamo Maiden Stakes – a race named in honor of the great McDynamo who was crowned “The King of Far Hills” after seven consecutive wins – while 10-year-old gelding, veteran Snap Decision, won the prestigious $250,000 American Grand National in a photo finish by just a neck!

Tailgate celebrations, many of which have spanned generations, continued to impress, while new and exciting vendors joined us offering an array of shopping opportunities for race goers on site. The Hunt Club was back and better than ever! An exclusive area at Moorland Farm, this year The Hunt Club, provided by Penelope Bourbon, was even bigger and offered more entertainment, including a virtual reality horse racing experience provided by our friends at America’s Best Racing and JockeyCam.

There is no scale that can properly measure the magnitude of the Far Hills Race Meeting and what it takes to produce one of the most historic, biggest and longest-running events in the state. Without the help of our hundreds of volunteers coordinating the myriad of moving parts behind the scenes, it simply would not be possible to pull off. Your dedication, attention to detail, and ability to adapt on the fly never goes unnoticed, especially when the unexpected – like a power outage – presents itself.

Due to a regional JCP&L power outage in the Far Hills region, Moorland Farm was suddenly off the grid, something which impacted everything on the property, from communications to sales, and even our ability to process tickets at entry which unfortunately led to significant delays.  Without power, we would also not have been able to race; however, thanks to immediate and swift action by our operations staff, within 45 minutes, the entire property was on back-up power. Though an event unforeseen and outside of our control, we take the experience we’re able to provide our guests and partners seriously and apologize for the delays and inconveniences the outage caused. We will be working to develop processes and procedures to ensure our teams are able to respond even faster and better mitigate the impact of an event such as this in the future.

To our sponsor, the Open Road Auto Group, our gratitude is forever yours! Ours has been a partnership that’s spanned nearly 50 years, and your unwavering support has given us the ability to make this event bigger and better every year and elevate the experiences for our guests. Your contributions, along with every ticket holder, are also what help us continue to make the charitable donations which have been vital in supporting healthcare charities across the state. We’re proud to continue that mission and say that more than $20 million has been donated to beneficiaries throughout the years.

Planning is what we do here at Moorland Farm, and we’re already looking ahead to next year for the 104th Running of the Far Hills Race Meeting. We encourage you to do the same and to check back early Spring to lock in your reserved parking spaces.

Thank you and we’re looking forward to seeing you back Saturday, October 18, 2025!
